I think our middle school should probably try homework-free weekends most of the time, although I know homework can be useful. Many students have activities, chores, and family events on weekends, and a break from assignments could help them return on Monday feeling sort of recharged. Teachers often say quality matters more than quantity, so concentrating homework on weekdays might make it feel more purposeful. Some people enjoy reading or studying anyway, and they can still do that by choice. I am not arguing for ending homework forever; I just believe limiting weekend work could reduce stress a little without hurting learning. We could test this plan for one quarter and see if grades, attendance, and class participation stay about the same for most students.

Our school should possibly start a little later in the morning, though I get that schedules are complicated. Many students say they feel sleepy in first period, and a small shift could help. Buses would still run, just at slightly different times. I am not claiming that every problem would be fixed, but a later start might support focus. Some families might worry about after-school activities, which is understandable. We could look at how other schools manage it. Trying a modest change for a trial could show whether attendance improves and if tardies go down. If it does not help, the schedule could return to normal. This is mainly about finding a time that seems to help learning without causing big issues for most students.
